Before & After: Penny’s Little Girl Room
In this blog post, I shared the before & after of my daughter Penny’s closet… today, I’m ready to reveal her whole little girl’s room in our Oakland home!
For Penny’s space, I wanted to take some risks with color and stay away from just pink and grey. So I mixed in lavender, black, and yellow and had some fun with it.
Just to show you how far this space really came, I’ll share a couple before & after shots from the construction. Then we’ll dive into the best features of the room...
Let’s go!
Before & After
And now on to the best features...
Striped Wallpaper
I love stripes! I read somewhere that every house should have stripes in at least one room, and I can't say I disagree. This particular wallpaper is from Wallshoppe.
Cool & Classic Carpet
I wanted a cool carpet and not just a basic builder grade option. This one feels classic and interesting. I love how it brings in a pattern and helps balance the striped wallpaper. It’s called Missoni from Stark Carpet.
Little (& Big) Girl’s Reading Nook
The reading nook is a dream. I have even slept here... LOL! It is the perfect size for sitting and reading or taking a snooze. We have had sleepovers here for sure.
Little Girl’s Gallery Wall
The gallery wall is my favorite. I brought in texture with the hanging ornament pieces from Atomic Garden in Oakland and added some photos of Penny that a friend Buckshot Photo took on the streets of Oakland.
High-Functioning Little Girl’s Closet
I LOVE this closet. It’s IKEA, but we made it feel custom by building around it. We chose the PAX system, so we can adjust the inside and switch up the hanging space and drawers super easily. Not your average closet!
Books & Bedside Cubbies
Though we already had a designated reading nook, I couldn’t resist adding another cozy little hangout with shelving for Penny and her books. (She has a lot of books!)
Penny enjoys her room each day (and I do too…), and she should have several years or more of room to grow in it. To see some of the inspiration I used for the room, check out the Penny’s little girl room Pinterest board!
